BENEFITS OF A SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. A Sports Massage:
  • Assists in recovery and injury prevention
  • Promotes flexibility
  • Release tight layers of muscle and tissue, which usually develops from bad posture, injury or overuse of the muscle
For anyone participating in regular physical activity, Sports massage therapy every week or two may be a great addition to your normal regime.

BENEFITS OF A DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep tissue massage is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). It's used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limiting range of motion, and inflammation.

MAINTENANCE MASSAGE
A maintenance massage combines techniques from a sports massage and deep tissue techniques. I work with each client to develop a bespoke massage and programme of care. The benefits of a maintenance massage include:
  • Assist in recovery and injury prevention
  • Helps to free adhesions, break down scar tissue and decrease inflammation
  • Facilitate local blood and lymph flow at the tissues
  • Assist removal of waste from the tissues
  • Increase joint mobility
  • Relieves muscular tightness, stiffness, spasms and restrictions in the muscle tissue
  • Assists in increasing flexibility in the muscles due to muscular relaxation
  • Incresase blood circulation bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the muscle, reaching muscle fatigue and soreness
  • Promotes rapid removal of toxins and waste products from the muscle
  • Increase tissue permeability
  • Increase muscle and connective tissue compliance
  • Helps to reduce pain by the release of endorphins

PRE-EVENT MASSAGE
Ideally a pre-event massage would be done 30 minutes prior to competition, however it can still be effective up to 2 hours before the event. A pre-event massage has many benefits:
  • Prepares muscles for the activity
  • Optimises performance
  • Warms up and increases blood flow to the working muscles
  • Improves oxygen and nutrient supply to the muscles
  • Encourages good joint range of motion
  • Allows for mental preparation
  • Reduces anxiety

POST-EVENT MASSAGE
A post event massage is effective anytime from 30 minutes to 24 hours after the competition. A post even massage has many benefits:
  • Assess for injury or tissue damage
  • Normalises tissue and restores muscle tone
  • Helps to prevent DOMS(delayed onset muscle soreness)
  • Relievs muscle cramps or spasms
  • Decreases muscle tension
  • Relieves pain
  • Increase blood flow, venous return and lymphatic drainage which all contribute to removing waste products from the working muscles.
